Seasonal Fruit

on Friday, December 07, 2007

One-time visitors to Cambodia may not notice, but frequently tourists may have noticed that there are 2 kinds of fruits, one is available all-year round (likes banana, pineapple or papaya) and the others is seasonal one. If you arrive at during this time, one of most notable fruit is Wood AppleLimonia acidisima L.), flowering since Feb-March. Wood apple ripens during this time, and generally detaches and falls in the morning, (by high and cold windy weather blows from Siberia). But however, seasonal fruits are plentiful during April, mostly edible wild fruits, and some are available in selected region of the country only.

Hello!

on Tuesday, November 20, 2007

Welcome back again. I don't know what to define myself, an occasional blogger, seasonal blogger or else? Got free time, got commitment, oh, that's more, I feel fun time when i blog.

I generally wanna talk something during an cultural event in Cambodia, in fact, if i post after visiting countryside is ways better, otherwise, it's just PP and PP. Cambodia Moon Festival and Boat race are about to begin this weekend. Phnom Penh will pack with people mostly from countryside, while PP'er will travel somewhere else. Oh i imagine what the traffic will be!!! as yet of nowadays, if you drive around rush hour, you know what it feels like, driving in PP, oh, not the main street, it's allover.

Let's talk about the very latest development, in terms of regional level, There now ASEAN Charter, just sign in this year ASEAN summit in Singapore. Khmer Rouge first public hearing, oh, that's a progress at least.

Don't like politics? Development? Er...Cambodia GDP now, oh it pass 1$ per day of GNP per capita Hoeuy. There's 42 story building in now construction in PP, a few more taller building into the skyline at least. Now, not anymore Toyota and Toyota like in ten years before, you can now see Bugatti, Hummer H1 H2 H3, Chrysler, Chevrolet, Cadillac and Mini's too are on the road.

Catch up with tech? New SSD Harddisk is not yet on sale as well the Hybrid one, ( but, hey, who cares? i don't have vista te). What it will be in 2020? couldn't imagine yet. New Phone Model? Nokia 8800 Arte/Sapphire Arte (Oh what a phone! - it surprise both price and elegance design) iPhone-like is now starting to roll out. Oh iPhone also in shops in PP.

Me? I just get myself a few new book to read. "The World is Flat" ( in fact it's not a very recent one, but the new paperback edition is here).

Oh, i should add some picture. i will next time.

this and that

on Monday, August 13, 2007

My whole life believe in good things. I have faith. I do enjoy the theories of Jean Paul Satre. I have read some old classic, like Republic, Plato.

I have read the last harry potter book, i give thumb-up for the author JK Rowling for this nice ending plot. I spent 2 full days to finish it off. What a surprise is that it is on sale same day as the global launch day, but it is too pricey that i'm wondering how many children can afford one here?

Let's talk about this PIM workshop, and the next big event Cambodia "clogger" summit at the end of this month, ( I really want to joint, but it on workday, so...); the great barrier, i think, the high price of hooking online, how many people can afford to subscribe from home? how many free public internet access? But i'm really happy to see the growing number, the growing interest, since the word "Blog" is the word of the year.

The popular election is less than a year and there are many fresh voter. I'm talking about Online Campaign, (will there be one?).

on Friday, May 04, 2007

This is May, It's hot, even hotter than April and where's the rain? it's got a little here and there but still not cool thing down a bit. Yet, it got much more holiday than the other months, start with Labour Day 1st May(it's the same day with Visak Buchea, otherwise you get 2days off) , 5th may is Chrot Phreah Nokoal, and King's Birthday is on 13, 14 and 15th of May (it's 5 day holiday if you count Sat and Sun). So where will you go? have any plan? me not yet, may be just relax at home and watch some movies. But current trend is having holdays abroad, popular spot is Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Sigapore, some also go to Hong Kong, Beijing of China, Australia and UK and US is also the some tour package. That's why tour company is now fourishing, and seems very profitable.

Little Bookshelf of Mine

on Wednesday, April 04, 2007

Well, I wanna write this blog regularly but whenever i reach the Internet, the speed seems always slow, that i barely check some mail and download some stuffs. Anyway, I just wish connection price come cheaper that i can have home subscription.

Recently, i got time to visit some bookstores, buy some books to add to my little coner bookshelf. I got this newly published local publications that is so interesting to me. A book written by Khing Hoc Dy titled in khmer and french as "Cambodian Literature of the 20th Century" have capture my attention so much that i reread it several time. It is a bible of khmer literature, featuring short biography for most of khmer famous writers since the start of 20 century, with selected texts of their works. With that references, i know i have bought one of the oldest khmer mordern novel "Tuk Tonlé Sap" by Kim Hak , newly republished but originally published in 1930's. It's also good to see some picture at the end of the book and there's so much more to write about at later time.

Another book that i have bought, and have much interest to read is "Annual Development Review" published by CDRI in English. It's written by peer of reseachers, looking at the main issue of development in Cambodia for the past year and for the future. The Oil curse, textiles productions, etc. are very much curbing my attention. I have to say "Thumb up!" for their works.

Chinese New Year! 2007

on Friday, February 09, 2007

Mark your calendar with two event in the week, first Valentine's day and after that is Chinese New Year! entering the Year of Pig. Got some little pig cake, for luck, some said. You know how many people on earth celebrate this lunar new year, guess it! i don't know exact figure either but not all chinese celebrate in the same day, they 1 or 2 days plus or minus, depends on the region, but my guess is more than one third of the world popular up to half will celebrate that. They are huge and got a big influences on business, culture and entertainment around the world. Just look at Disney Channel Asia. I'm just thinking of the car accident that happen during the holiday, that's not small either. But that won't keep me @ home, i got no plan yet.

Valentine Valentine!

The Valentine's Day is coming in less than a week. So, how do you celebrate it? have any plan already? Many publications already chill out on this with tips on good presents, flower colors, number of flowers, etc., wanna know? check it out! Anyway, anyone would notice the day with this concert of Rasmey Hangmeas with ten of their singer.

The ticket price is 2USD and 3 USD. The concert is takiing place at Olypic Stadium from 6pm onward. They promise the concert will be larger and better. But notice any differences from last year? Kim Leakhena is gone for good ( married a husband and go to live in USA, so what else to say? you tell me!). 2 new comer rush into the group, yeah, they have yet have any album with the company, ( they must sing the new song, but what if they sing their old hit song, any conflict with their former label? oh ask the IPR man and they will tell) Sokun Nisa says she hope everyone enjoy her new style with RHM (oh Sok Chomnor, a song writer is her fiance; and rumour is that SPARK music had trouble of having new song for her to sing). Chon Sovannreach (if you know him), the rising star from ChenlaBrother Entertainment with his couple of hit songs recently ( Like Pel Na Oun Smos and Cham Tang Trodor) will welcome you on stage too.
